As expected, during a launch event in NYC this morning, Samsung unveiled their latest flagship android smartphone. The Galaxy Note7 as it is called is the successor to last year's Galaxy Note5 and similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy S7 earlier this year, the new Note7 is visually similar to last year's Note5.

Most of the changes that Samsung is introducing with the Note7 is under the hood. With the Note7, Samsung is keeping the 5.7-inch display size but introducing the dual curved display as a standard on the Note7. This new curved display enabled Samsung to make the Note7 a little bit lighter and thinner while increasing the battery capacity from 3,000mAh to 3,500mAh.

Additionally, Samsung is also bringing both the IP68 water and dust certification and USB Type C port from the Galaxy S7 to the Galaxy Note7.

Samsung Galaxy Note7 Key Specifications:

— 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 sAMOLED display
— 64-bit octa core Exynos 8893 or Snapdragon 820 SoC
— 4GB RAM
— 64GB expandable memory
— 12MP f1.7 Dual pixel rear camera with OIS
— 5MP f1.7 front camera
— IP68 certification
— 3,500mAh battery with wireless charging
— 153.5 x 73.9 x 7.9gmm (168g)
— LTE
— Black Onyx, Silver Titanium, Blue Coral, Gold
Beyond the similar overall design, the Note7 is in a lot of ways like the Galaxy Note5 in terms of design. The aluminium frame and colored glass design is still present here and for the Note7, Samsung is introducing a new Blue Coral color that combines a light shade of blue with a gold theme.

In terms of hardware, the new Note7 comes with the best of Samsung and Qualcomm depending on the region and for the first time, Samsung is making 64GB of internal storage a standard. When compared to last year's Note5, the Note7 gains a new microSD card slot that accepts up to 256GB microSD cards.

Moving on to the camera, the Note7 inherits the one from the Galaxy S7 so expect to see the camera perform well in real life performance. On the front, the 5MP camera with dual pixel technology is also inherited from the Galaxy S7 but Samsung is introducing a new software feature that allows you to unlock your phones with your eyes.

This new iris scanning technology will not only allow Galaxy Note7 users to unlock their phone with just their eyes but this feature is secure enough to authenticate encrypted information and also to confirm Samsung Pay transactions. Of course, the fingerprint scanning home button is still available on the Note7.
And finally, the feature that differentiates the Galaxy Note7 with the Galaxy S7 edge is Samsung's S Pen. This year, Samsung is improving the S Pen by doubling the pressure sensitivity from 2048 to 4096 levels of pressure. What this means is that you can expect more precise strokes when using the S Pen on the Note7.

The new features of the S Pen on the Note7 include a magnifier which magnifies the text when you hover the S Pen over, a GIF maker through smart select and a translator that automatically translate a foreign text when you hover the S Pen over it. All these features sound cool bur the best one has go to be Samsung's claim that the S Pen will work underwater.

Samsung will begin offering the Galaxy Note7 globally on August 19 and they will be accepting pre-orders as early as August 3. For Malaysia, Samsung Malaysia will be accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy Note7 from 8-10 August and only 4,000 units are up for grabs. The Galaxy Note7 will be officially available in Malaysia on August 19th and is priced at RM 3,199.

Malaysia will getting the Dual SIM LTE model and only the black, gold and silver Note7 are up for grabs. Learn more about all the features that the Galaxy Note7 has to offer here
